Mental Health

As COVID-19 continues to spread, we want to thank our drivers who are out on the front lines, ensuring the supply chain continues to move so that shelves can be restocked and much needed medical supplies are delivered to healthcare providers. You are the true heroes in the logistics world — our first line responders.

While much of the workforce outside of trucking is hunkered down, working from home, we know drivers constantly run the risk of being exposed to the infectious virus themselves, especially in the hot zones spanning from coast to coast.

The end of COVID-19 can’t come fast enough – thankfully, the curve is flattening in some areas. There is light at the end of the tunnel. But, the fight is still one. It’s important for drivers to maintain good mental and physical health.

It’s been a grind and keeping mental health in check is key as we get through this. We know the time a driver spends out on the road away from family and friends, combined with the overall lifestyle of living on the road is difficult enough. But, add in COVID-19 and it takes things to a whole new level. What’s happening in the world is a breeding ground for depression and anxiety amongst drivers. That makes it so important to ensure you’re in a good place mentally.

Social media

Resources can be difficult for drivers to find on the road, which is why the group Truckers for Truckers (Fight Against Depression and Suicide) Facebook group was created. The group allows drivers to reach out to other drivers and share what’s on their mind. It’s a safe place for drivers to be open about their struggles and help one another. With drivers often having limited time to meet with therapists and health care providers, this group helps fill that void. You’re not alone!

7 Cups

We live in a world where you can be surrounded by people, but still feel lonely, with nobody to turn to when things get rough. But being heard is an important part of being human. Psychologist, Glen Moriarty saw that there was great power in listening, but he knew not everyone had someone to talk to. He started to wonder. "How can I make being heard a reality for everyone?" That's why 7 Cups was born. Thanks to thousands of volunteer listeners stepping up to lend a friendly ear, 7 Cups is happy to say, "We're here for you!" No matter who you are or what you're going through, this is a place where you'll be heard and cared for. We might be strangers on the surface, but underneath we're just the friends you haven't met yet.

No Shame on U

More than one in four Americans ages 18 or older lives with a diagnosable mental health issue - 26.2%. This means that on average, every family is touched by mental illness. Yet two thirds of those diagnosed do not get treated. Research shows that stigma is one of the key barriers to people seeking mental health treatment. No Shame On U is dedicated to breaking the stigma associated with mental health so the people who need the help will seek it, family members and friends will know how to provide proper support, and to save lives. We achieve our mission through our community outreach programs, classes and workshops, our online presence of nearly 100,000 Facebook followers, our weekly blog, our podcast, distribution of our fact sheets, crisis information magnets and videos, and educational presentations.
